WHAT IS A THIGH BUTTOCK LIFT?
A thigh-buttock lift is a surgical procedure that will tighten flabby, loose skin on your upper legs and butt. Usually a thigh lift and a buttock lift are done at the same time.

WHO SHOULD HAVE ONE?
If the skin on the backs and sides of your legs or butt looks dimpled and flabby, and you are not able to get rid of it with exercise or dieting, you are probably a good candidate for a thigh and buttock lift.

HOW IS A THIGH-BUTTOCK LIFT DONE?
This procedure is done using general anesthesia, on either inpatient or outpatient basis. The staff at Sinno Plastic Surgery Center will review incision options with you. There are a variety of ways the incision may be done, depending on your goals and personal preferences.

WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU EXPECT WITH A THIGH BUTTOCK LIFT?
The appearance of your thighs and buttocks will improve dramatically. They will appear tighter and more attractive. The skin will be smoother and your body will appear more contoured. Skin irregularities will be notably decreased.

Remember, a thigh-buttock lift will not make your thighs or butt look perfect. But it will make them look much better.

HOW CAN YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR THIGH-BUTTOCK LIFT
The best way to prepare your body for surgery is to make healthy lifestyle choices in the weeks beforehand. Exercise regularly. Get adequate sleep. Eat right. Take vitamin supplements. Reduce stress. If you prepare your body for surgery, your “back-to-normal time” is often reduced.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT WHEN YOU ARE HEALING

Pain
The amount of pain you experience will depend on how large of an area is treated. When a small area of your thighs and buttocks are lifted, your discomfort is easily treated with prescription pain medicine and the procedure is done as outpatient. If you have a larger area lifted, you may need to spend 1 night in the hospital for observation and medical treatment following surgery.

Swelling and bruising
Most of the bruising and swelling is gone within a month. Some swelling and tenderness in the area may persist for 3-6 months.

Drainage of fluid
Small rubber drain tubes are often placed at the time of surgery and are left in place for several days, They help to prevent fluid collection under the skin.
Small amounts of bleeding and oozing are normal. If you see more than just slow staining of the gauze dressing, go ahead and apply pressure with your hand for 20-30 minutes. If the faster bleeding does not stop, call Dr. Sinno’s office. Heavy bleeding after the procedure is very rare. In that case, call the office immediately.

Numbness
You may experience small areas of numbness on your thighs or butt. This usually disappears gradually over 1-3 months.

Sitting and lying down
No matter what position you choose, you will not be able to avoid putting some pressure on the treated area. Try to change positions every 30 minutes to make sure you don’t put too much stress or weight on any one area.

Bathing
Surgical tape may be placed over your incisions. Treat the tape like your own skin—bathe and dry off normally. If the strips get loose, or curl on the ends, you can snip the ends off or remove them completely.

Remember, it’s very important to keep the surgical incision and the area around them free of contamination to avoid infection.

Resuming normal activity
You should walk every day, starting the day after your procedure. Do as much walking as you can, take things at your own pace. As you heal, you will be able to do more of your regular activities. You should be able to resume your physical exercise program (such as aerobics) within 6 weeks after the procedure.

If you have a job where you sit most of the day, you should plan to stay home for 10-14 days after the surgery. If you do lifting and moving regularly, plan to wait about 4-6 weeks before returning to work.

Diet and Nutrition
Good diet and nutrition will help your body heal better, and faster, after a surgical procedure.

  • Drink plenty of water or clear fluids; up to 64 ounces a day is recommended
  • Eat fresh fruits and vegetables with every meal
  • Eat small amounts of protein with every meal
  • Eat every 4-5 hours; do not wait longer to eat
  • Eat more frequent meals, with fewer calories per meal
  • Eat breakfast within an hour after you get up
  • Use vitamin supplements, especially antioxidants, to promote healing and renew energy

HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
The results are long lasting. A limited degree of sagging can occur after the surgery.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS AND RISKS?
All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Certain individuals may not be good candidates for specific procedures. Major complications from a thigh-buttock lift are unusual. Most likely risks include the following.

Infection
Because the treated area can become contaminated with fecal material, you will need to shower and wash thoroughly after every bowel movement. After drying completely, you will need to apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to that area.

Scars
You will have some scarring with a thigh and buttock lift. Incisions are done to minimize scarring as best as possible. You can choose whether to have the lift done with upper or lower scars. Dr. Sinno will review these options with you in detail.

Scarring sometimes move 1-2 centimeters as the skin “settles” in your newly contoured body.

ARE THERE OTHER PROCEDURES THAT CAN BE DONE ALONG WITH A THIGH-BUTTOCK LIFT?
Liposuction is frequently combined with thigh-buttock lift procedures if indicated.
Sometimes people like to have additional plastic surgery work done while getting a thigh-buttock lift in order to enhance their overall appearance. At Sinno Plastic Surgery Center we also offer the following procedures to help contour your body:

- Tummy Tuck
- Breast Lift
- Breast reduction or augmentation

ARE THERE ANY ALTERNATIVES TO THIGH-BUTTOCK LIFT?
Options for improving the look of your thighs and buttocks include weight loss and exercise, especially toning exercise. Liposuction alone may be an option in some cases.

WILL INSURANCE PAY FOR THE PROCEDURE?
A thigh and buttock lift is an optional medical treatment. Therefore, it is not covered by insurance. You are responsible for full payment.
